City of Canada Bay Sustainable Schools & Childcare Network Meeting
Event Information
About this Event
For our last 2019 meeting, we will be merging the Sustainable Childcare and School Networks together to give everyone a chance to network and learn from all education levels. This will be a fantastic opportunity to gather ideas for projects you can take on in 2020.
Presentations at this meeting will include:
- Habitat Garden: Bev Debrincat from Habitat Network will discuss how you can support local biodiversity through creating small bird habitat havens at your school/centre, in gardens and as part of habitat corridors. The workshop will illustrate how to plant a habitat haven and teachers will be able to use this technique to get students to help plan plantings within their schools.
- Native Bee Keeping: Gavin Smith from Sydney Bee Club will talk about the benefits of teaching kids about bees and caring for a hive in your school.
- RecycleSmart: The Super Recycler Workshop
- Enviro excursions/incursions: Tristen Vella from Observatory Hill Environmental Education Centre will share programs available for schools this year.
This network event is aimed at primary, secondary and early childhood educators within the City of Canada Bay. Educators from other Council area are welcome to attend but may not be able to access services and programs on offer at the meeting. If spaces are limited, priority will be given to educators from schools and centres within the City of Canada Bay.
There will be plenty of time for networking, sharing ideas and asking questions.

About Sustainable Schools & Childcare Network
City of Canada Bay's Sustainable Schools & Childcare Network welcomes local parents and teachers wanting to network and share ideas about school sustainability. The meeting are hosted by local schools or centres in the local area and at the recommendation of educators, Council plans meetings, organise guest speakers and workshop activities. This network supports early childhood centres through to high schools to implement real-life sustainability learning.
Children are welcome at all meetings. We suggest bringing along some activities for children if they are coming along as childcare is not available.
