Craig James has long been one of Australia’s
leading economists. Craig became chief
economist of Colonial Group in 1997, before
becoming chief economist at CommSec in
August 2000 – interpreting ‘big picture’
economic and financial trends for the bank.

According to The Australian, Craig is the third
most quoted man in Australian media. CommSec
is the most quoted economic group in the
mainstream media.

CommSec reports are different in that they devise
tools such as; the ‘Mums and Dads’ share index,
the iPhone index, and also undertake research on
the weather and demographic changes to show how
they affect the economy. His reports are regularly
reported upon and often called a ‘user-friendly’
economic outlook.
