Description

Chris Frizell, the very last Ketch hand will tell us his top 10 stories working on board the ketches Nelceebee and Falie.

Seats are limited book early!

His first trip on the Falie was as a passenger in 1975. Became a ketch hand, working for R. Fricker & Co, in 1977. Was the last ketch hand to sign off on both ships in 1982.

Chris spent 5 years at sea on both Nelcebee and Falie, and was bosun of the Falie for two years until she was laid up in 1982.

He became live in caretaker of the Falie just after the purchase by the State Government in August 1982 and was one of the founding members of Falie Project Limited, the Company charged with the restoration and management of the ship.

Was head of the Maintenance Committee, and designed the ships sail plan, and mast and rigging construction plans, which became the ships rig as we know it today.

Left the ship in 1986 to pursue other job opportunities, but stayed as a member of Falie Project Limited until it was wound up when the ship was laid up in the early 1990’s.

Active in maritime research, focussing on the South Australian Ketch Trade, Chris .has a Facebook Page called “The South Australian Ketch Fleet”.
