Workshop description

Based on the concept of a 5-part mathematics lesson, this hands-on workshop presntd by Anita Chin will specifically focus on the daily number sense component. Daily number sense is the ‘practice’, the ‘getting ready’ for learning new content to build on prior learning. This warm-up component of the lesson has the potential to be engaging, thought provoking, and provide an assessment opportunity if we are using appropriate tasks, tools, and talk. Learn how to take your current daily number sense activities to the next level by making daily counting routines student and teacher centred with a twist! Black line masters, links to resources and suggested teacher reference books provided.

Empowering teachers with red hot tips and strategies to:

  • make the maths visible using the online NSW Mathematics K-10 Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum and annotating over images using an IWB or a large format touchscreen panel
  • engage all learners through the use of mathematical language
  • improve students’ mental computation skills through the use of differentiated hands-on activities to meet the needs of all your students.
