About this Event

Workshop Description:

The City of Sydney Chinese New Year Celebration Program for 2020.

Please join us at 541 Art Space to celebrate the 2020 Luna New Year at our Chinese calligraphy workshop. Traditional food and drinks will be available, come for a fun day with the whole family!!

This 2-hour workshop is for an intimate class to learn the basics of traditional Chinese calligraphy. The techniques used are the foundation of Chinese calligraphy, making use of simple but expressive brush strokes on rice paper to create beautiful Chinese characters. Dr. Fan will help students to translate their English name into Chinese in order to create a beautiful piece of calligraphy. Through this process students will learn how to appreciate Chinese philosophy and aesthetics in relation to this art form. This workshop is taught in an easy to understand way, that is meditative, enjoyable and relaxing.

By the end of this workshop, students should be able to understand the basics of Chinese calligraphy, comprehend the use of materials and equipment, master the essential brush strokes and composition, construct simple Chinese letters and other skills necessary to be able to enjoy this classic art form at home.

Workshop tickets: $60 (Including materials & afternoon tea)
