Description

Leading effective and sustainable change in schools requires new thinking. The China today program has been specifically designed to empower school leaders to develop deeper knowledge and understanding of China to support Chinese cultural and language programs in your school.

The China Today program provides participants with a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about a diverse and rapidly changing China. You will gain a deep understanding of education in China today in the context of economic development, the urban/rural divide and everyday life.

Over ten days, participants will visit four great cities: Beijing, the political and cultural centre; Shanghai, the economic engine; Hangzhou, said to be like ‘heaven on earth'; and Nanjing, home of one of China’s leading universities and centre of Chinese history.

Opportunities to interact with Chinese educators will be provided through a two-day principal shadowing program, school leaders forum, school visits and formal lectures at the top-ranked Nanjing University.

The program will include visits to world-famous historical sites such as the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City, but also high-tech business regions, social enterprises, and cultural centres.

Learning outcomes:

  • deepened knowledge and understanding of modern Chinese society and its historic context
  • enhanced understanding of the Chinese education today, its reform and agenda; provide opportunities for participants to exchange views and share good practices with Chinese counterparts in the education transition via Principal Forum hosted by the District Education and Principal Shadowing Program
