Event description
China Matters is excited to present in partnership with Asia Society Australia, the November Young Professionals Debate in Melbourne

About this Event

China Matters will host our seventh Young Professionals Debate on 26 November 2019 in Melbourne in partnership with Asia Society Australia.

Our two special guest debaters for the evening will be Mr Philipp Ivanov, Chief Executive Officer, Asia Society Australia and Professor Michael Wesley, appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor International, University of Melbourne and China Matters Board Director. Our young professionals participants include Ms Kate Clayton, Academic Tutor, University of Melbourne and Ms Isabella Mory, Regional Manager for Greater China, Trinity College Foundation Studies, University of Melbourne.

Join us on the evening of Tuesday 26 November to listen to our two teams debate the question, "Are Australian universities treating PRC international students as 'cash cows'?". Following an initial opening from our four debaters, young professionals in the audience will be invited to participate in the discussion through Q&A.

Please arrive by 5:30pm. The debate will begin at 6:00pm and end at 7:15pm. The event will conclude with networking drinks and nibbles.

REGISTRATION and ELIGIBILITY

The event is free, and registration is a must.

Should you be unavailable to attend, please cancel your reservation so someone else can take your place. Please be aware that we frequently have waiting lists for our events, and participants who sign-up but do not attend on the day may have restricted access to future events.

This event is strictly catered for individuals under the age of 35 in a professional role and/or engage in postgraduate study. Unfortunately in this instance, this event is not catered to full-time undergraduate students.

ABOUT CHINA MATTERS

China Matters Young Professionals is a program for 35-year olds and under who are interested in Australia's relationship with China. We are particularly intent on bringing together public servants and business representatives to discuss some of the tough issues in the Australia-China relationship.

This debate is one of China Matters Young Professionals' flagship events: we bring together two young professionals and two special guests to debate a challenge facing the Australia-China relationship from the perspective of both business and government.
