Children's Field Trip | Exploring Biodiversity in the Wet
Overview
Observe and identify local fauna and flora in the field with the MAGNT Education Team and sharpen your citizen science skills. Explore the fauna and flora surrounding Lake Alexander then collect water samples to examine the tiny inhabitants of the lake through the field microscopes.
The field bus will depart MAGNT at 8am and return by 11am where the experience will continue in the Discovery Centre.

This is a dedicated children's program. Adults can only attend if accompanying children.
Appropriate closed in footwear for walking outdoors, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks and drink bottles are essential.
Please cancel your booking if you are no longer able to make it to free up tickets for others.
Key Information
Arrive at MAGNT between 7:45am and 7:55am to check-in before boarding the bus.
Parents and carers who are unable to attend must complete a MAGNT Field Trip Permission Slip on check-in.
MAGNT staff will have a basic field first aid kit. Please bring any medication you require to maintain your personal health and safety.
The field trip will conclude in the Discovery Centre.
Conditions of Entry
By entering MAGNT premises, each person agrees to be bound by the following Conditions of Entry:
• Visitors who show signs of being under the influence of alcohol, illicit drugs or other substances will be refused entry to MAGNT’s premises.
• Backpacks and bags longer or wider than 30cm on any one side are not permitted in the galleries and must be stowed in a locker or drawer behind the Information Desk.
• Water bottles are permitted inside the galleries providing they are tightly sealed.
Bottles of flavoured drinks, hot or cold take away drinks and food are not permitted. These items must be stowed before entering the galleries.
• Items including umbrellas, plant material and organic matter, including flowers and feathers, must be stowed before entering the galleries.
• Baby bags may be taken in providing they are no longer or wider than 30cm on any one side and are securely and unobtrusively attached to a pram or carried by the side of the parent or carer.
• Carrying small children on the shoulders and back is not permitted, unless the child is in a baby backpack.
• Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times within the galleries.
• Visitors must not touch, or in any other way, interfere with artworks, objects or displays and please maintain a safe distance of 45cm from objects at all times.
• Guide dogs and accredited assistance animals are welcome and proof of accreditation must be presented on arrival. All other animals are prohibited.
• Lithium battery powered modes of transport, or recreational equipment, are not allowed inside MAGNT. Mobility aids and small personal devices (mobiles, laptops and digital cameras) are exempt.
• Scooters, skateboards, skates and pull along shopping trollies or carts are not permitted inside the galleries and must be stowed before entering.
• Photography, videos and films for personal use are permitted unless stated otherwise, and providing taking them does not disrupt other visitors or MAGNT operations.
• Flash photography, or the use of selfie-sticks, monopods and tripods are not allowed.
• Footwear must be worn at all times.
• MAGNT is a smoke-free and vape-free site. Smoking or the use of e-cigarettes and vaporisers on MAGNT premises is not permitted.
• Closed circuit security cameras are installed throughout MAGNT and may record you during your visit. Footage from these cameras is held and disposed of in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and Surveillance Devices Act 2007 (NT).
• Visitors who do not comply with MAGNT notices, or who engage in conduct that poses a threat to others and/or MAGNT exhibition and buildings, will be directed to leave the premised by an authorised officer.
