A professional development forum for practitioners and services working with children and young people

About this Event

The forum explores frameworks and approaches in supporting children and young people who are affected by Domestic and Family Violence.

The November forum occurs during the UN-led 16 days of Activism against violence against women and girls.

The same forum will be held on Wednesday 27th November 2019 and Wednesday 5th February, please choose which one you can attend and RSVP as required.

Speakers:

» Loretta Bennett from Carinity, Talera

Loretta is a Psychotherapist with more than 20 years’ experience working with children, young people and families. She is employed by Carinity Talera as a Child and Family Therapist and is skilled in individual and family therapy as well as case management and group work.

» Dr Heidi Saunders from Carinity, Talera

Heidi is a Clinical Psychologist who is employed as a Child and Family Therapist at Carinity Talera. She also works in private practice applying trauma-informed interventions for historical childhood trauma with adults in the context of chronic pain and teaches about complex trauma at QUT.

» Carolyn Robinson from Beyond DV

Carolyn Robinson is the Founder & Managing Director of Beyond DV Ltd. With more than thirty years of experience in the Education sector, both as a Teacher and Administrator, and after supporting a loved one through domestic violence, Carolyn founded Beyond DV in January 2018 to fill identified gaps in services for women & children rebuilding their lives after DFV. Beyond DV currently delivers five unique programs for women and children across the Greater Brisbane Area, with several new, child-focused programs planned for 2020.

» Nicole Dorrington from Evolve Therapeutic Services, Children’s Health Queensland

Nicole is a psychologist with a background in disability, private practice and CYMHS. For the last 9 years, Nicole has worked with the Evolve program, specialising in providing mental health support to children and young people in out-of-home care with complex emotional and behavioural difficulties. The past 2 years acting in the Professional Development Coordinator role at Evolve South.

» Catalina Paulsen Brisbane Domestic Violence Service, Micah Projects.

Catalina Paulsen is a Children and Young People's (CYP) Specialist Domestic Violence Workers at BDVS. Catalina has a background in clinical psychology working with Children and Adolescents and a Masters Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from UQ. Catalina has a passion for social justice, gender violence, mental health and supporting women and children. Catalina has been involved in setting up and delivering one of the first groups in the Brisbane Region for children and young people that have been affected by DFV.
