Event description

Description

Join children's authors and literacy advocates Michelle Worthington, Yvonne Mes and Wenda Shurety and special guest, teacher of the year nominee Tracey Garrett as they share insights into incorporating the latest in child development research into Kidlit. When writing for children, as adults we have a different perspective of the word around us to the children we write for. We think back on our own childhoods and study the children around us, however, we can also look at theories of child development such as the development of humour, cognitive development, moral development and take into account the latest on brain development and child psychology. We may not know what each particular child will love in a story, but we can understand why a child is more likely to connect with a story at a particular age or phase of development. Not only will they discuss the importance of content, but also of context and delivery, specifically pertaining to author school visits to classrooms with children with learning difficulties and alternate abilities.

Coffee and tea provided.
