Event description

Description

The Queensland Government, through the Embracing 2018 Legacy Program for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, have provided funds to the RATS Cycling Club for the Chicks Ride program, to get women and girls active for life.

The RATS Cycling Club in partnership with Mountain Bike Coaching Brisbane and the Qld Government are pleased to make available this introductory course to provide an opportunity for women with limited or no off road mountain biking experience to try the fun and social sport of mountain biking. The course is aimed at women wanting to Get Out and Get Active, for women new to the trails, and for women wanting to try a new way to exercise and enjoy the outdoors . The course will be run in a safe and supporting environment by two highly qualified and experienced coaches and is subsidised to keep the costs to a minimum.

The course comprises 2 x 2 hour sessions, for women only, with or without your own bike. Bike loan can also be arranged*

The course fees cover 1 year recreational membership of RATS Cycling Club and thus MTBA, which provides you with accident insurance and eligibility to join the Chicks Ride regular Sunday social ride where you can further the fun and ride with other like minded ladies.

*Bike supply is limited to the first 10 that require bikes and only available for the course sessions. Select "bike required" in the registration section below if desired.

What does the course content cover ?

The course starts at the very basics of riding a bike and is primarily held on a flat grassy area. By the end of the two sessions you will understand and be able to perform the basics oftrail riding, including body position, braking, cornering, inclines, declines and basic obstacle crossing. We will also have ridden on an easy dirt trail preparing you to take your adventures further at your own pace.

Who are the Coaches?

The Coaches for this course will be Mark Routledge and Mark Watts, well known for their SheRides and other womens specialist coaching. We invite you read the reviews on their Facebook page by their previous participants.
