Event description

Description

The Rats Chick Ride from the RATS Cycling Club in partnership with Mountain Bike Coaching Brisbane is pleased to make available this introductory course to provide an opportunity for women with limited or no mountain biking experience to try the fun and social sport of mountain biking. The course is aimed at women wanting to learn mountain biking, for women new to the trails, and for women wanting to try a new way to exercise and enjoy the outdoors. The course will be run in a safe and supporting environment by two highly qualified and experienced coaches and is subsidised to keep the costs to a minimum.

The course comprises 2x 2-hour sessions, for women only, with or without your own bike. Bike loan can also be arranged. Bike supply is limited to the first 10 that require bikes and only available for the course sessions. Select "bike required" in the registration section below if desired.

What does the course content cover?

The course starts at the very basics of riding a bike and is primarily held on a flat grassy area. By the end of the two sessions, you will understand and be able to perform the basics of trail riding, including body position, braking, cornering, inclines, declines and basic obstacle crossing. We will also have ridden on easy dirt trails preparing you to take your adventures further at your own pace.

Please note that the first session is a prerequisite for the second session. Thus you cannot miss the first session for whatever reason and expect to complete the second session as the course content is additive. Thus if you are sick or injured then please make contact with us ASAP so as we can advise on the best course of action.

Who are the Coaches?

The Coaches for this course will be Mark Routledge and Mark Watts, well known for their SheRides and other women's specialist coaching. We invite you to read the reviews on their Facebook page by their previous participants.

When are the sessions?

The course session dates are Sunday 24/11/19 and Sunday 1/12/19. (you are paying to attend both sessions)

The time for each session is 3-5pm.

Event numbers (and bikes) are limited so we encourage you to register early.

FAQs

Is there an age limit to enter the course?

Yes, you must be a minimum of 18 years of age to attend. (or accompanied by your parent or guardian who is also doing the course. In this instance, you must be a minimum of 15 years of age.

Do I need insurance?

Yes, to take part in any Rats Cycling Club events you need Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) membership that includes personal insurance. You can get a free 8-week trial MTBA membership including insurance cover at the MTBA website (https://www.mtba.org.au/membership/membership-types/free-trial-membership/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIl7mF6q-75AIVTw4rCh0gGwlFEAAYASADEgKww_D_BwE).

What do I bring to the event?

You will need a trail-worthy Mountain Bike, an Australian Standard helmet (unless registering for bike hire in which case a helmet will be provided). We would also recommend gloves, sunglasses, comfortable clothing, a full drink bottle preferably mounted on the bike is better (hire bikes do have a bottle holder so if you have a bike riding sized bottle you can keep it with you on the bike), applying sunscreen before the session and a snack to top up energy levels if required (like a muesli bar)

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

No, we will have a list of all registered participants on the day.

How much is the course?

The fee for the 2 sessions is $40 if you bring your own bike and helmet, and $60 if you would like to hire a bike and helmet.

What is your refund policy?

No refunds are available. In the instance of rain, the event may be cancelled or rescheduled at the organiser's discretion to ensure participant safety and minimise damage to the trails. No guarantee can be made that if the event is rescheduled the new event time will work for all participants. Should the participant not be available for the rescheduled time, registration can be made at the next available course at no additional charge.
