CHER - LARISSA MCGOWAN
This solo, contemporary dance work explores the persona and characters of singer, actress, icon, and ultimate pop chameleon, Cher.
Cher breaks convention, challenges the system and somehow remains a constant. Choreographer, dancer and fan, Larissa McGowan, will use Cher’s iconic figure as a totem in order to flesh out the real possibilities of personal-political transformation.
Cher will be an inspired mash-up of gender, power and popular culture; a self-discovery of epic proportions; a headfirst dive into the artist’s path to reinvention.
SPEECH PATTERN - DAVID ROSETZKY & JO LLOYD
Speech Pattern is an investigation into contemporary subjectivity utilising performance, video and installation. The work draws from the fields of dance and the moving image, alongside queer, feminist and psychoanalytic theory.
Using a collaborative process, artist David Rosetzky will work with choreographer Jo Lloyd and performers Shelley Lasica and Stephen Phillips to explore the construction of memory, behaviour and interpersonal relationships.
Taking as its premise that the subject and construction of self is relative to others and dependent on language, Speech Pattern aims to challenge normative views of gender and identity by refiguring conventions of speech, image and movement through performance and installation.
