Changing the Landscape: opportunities for Tasmanian practice
Event Information
About this event
Our Watch and Women with Disabilities Victoria are proud to share the new national resource Changing the landscape: A national resource to prevent violence against women and girls with disabilities.
Following the national launch, Tasmanian stakeholders are invited to a discussion to talk through the implications of Changing the landscape, and to talk about the current opporutnitites and challenges for preventing violence against women and girls living with disabilities in Tasmania.
Changing the landscape is an evidence-based resource that shows that violence against women and girls with disabilities is preventable, not inevitable.
This national resource names ableism and gender inequality as the two consistent, intersecting drivers of violence against women and girls with disabilities, and sets out the actions needed to address these drivers and stop this violence before it starts.
Changing the landscape outlines that we can all play a role in preventing this violence, by addressing its drivers, grounding our actions in evidence and making sure safety, dignity and respect for women and girls with disabilities are at the heart of our strategies.
This is not just about ending the alarmingly high rates of violence against women and girls with disabilities, but also about building a society where all women are safe, valued, respected and have equal rights and opportunities.
This event will be held via Zoom with an AUSLAN interpreter and live captioning.
Hard copies of the resource can be requested through the registration process and will be posted to attendees. All accessible versions will be shared online at the launch.
We look forward to exploring how Changing the landscape can support and develop primary prevention practice in Tasmania.
