Event description

Description

2017 was a year in which the current view of women in society was examined closely. Campaigns such as #MeToo helped bring light to systemic abuse of power, and how women are treated, at every level and every aspect of society. This year, IWD is inviting people all over the world to, after having recognised the issues, move forward and strive for real change. Although motivational slogans and hashtags have their roles and purpose, now is the time to press for progress.

The team at Sisters in Science has partnered with Elizabeth Blackburn School of Sciences (a year 11/12 STEMM school) and Melbourne Universities' Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) student society to put together an evening of panel discussions with champions of gender diversity in STEMM and wider society.

The discussion will be centred around approaches that can be taken to accelerate the pace at which we are achieving gender equality in STEMM and society. The conversation will seek to uncover changes that can be made at not only a grassroots level, but also through interrogating the problems with power, and those who hold it.

We want mothers, daughters, change makers, and the curious (of all genders) to bring their questions and open minds of to the discussion.

Panelists include a future of work specialist, women doing amazing work in STEM, a high school student at the frontline of the issue and champions of gender diversity. Stay tuned as they will be annouced very soon.
