CENTRAL COAST: SMART Teacher PD Workshops - Thurs 18 March 2021 - Digi Tech

Teachers are invited to join SMART in Ourimbah on Thursday 18 March 2021 for a hands-on workshop (or two!) to explore fun, digital technology focused activities, transferable to the Stage 2-3 classroom.
Stage 4 and pre-service teachers are welcome to attend.
Activities presented aim to support teachers to confidently build their student's:
- Computational thinking skills, and,
- Understanding of algorithms, branching and iteration.
Workshop 1 [9am-11.30am] explores unplugged (no screen) activities, including some developed by the Australian Computing Academy and CS Unplugged (Stage 2 - 3), plus a selection of activities for Bee Bots and Ozobots (Stage 1 - 2).
Workshop 2 [12.30pm-3pm] explores getting started with collaborative coding and robotics activities, with a focus on LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 (Stage 2 - 3 - 4) and a short introduction to Sphero BOLT (Stage 1-4). No prior coding experience is required.
Content presented in each workshop differs, enabling teachers to choose to attend both sessions in the same day, for a full day of professional development if preferred.
Workshop participants will:
- Experience and observe activities transferable to the classroom, to support student computational thinking skills, and achievement toward outcome** ST3-3DP-T of the NSW Science and Technology K-6 Syllabus (2017) (and ACTDIP019).
- Collaboratively plan for future implementation and application of activities in their classrooms.
- Be invited to reflect on own teaching practice before, during and post-workshop. An optional (1 hour) follow-up online workshop will be hosted in Term 2, 2021 via Zoom.
The workshops support Australian Professional Standards for Teachers 2, 3 and 6.
**Activities presented in workshop 2 also support achievement towards outcome TE4-4DP of the TECHNOLOGY MANDATORY YEARS 7–8 SYLLABUS (2017) and ACTDIP030.
