Hand Building- Beginners - Student projects

Thursdays 10am - 12:30pm - 4 Weeks

I am a qualified, 4 year trained Primary school teacher graduating with Honours . I have programmed for and taught ceramics, mosaics, colour theory and painting to students from stages 1 to 3, identified as demonstrating giftedness and talent in Visual Arts.

My 20+ years teaching experience has greatly enhanced my professional development as an educator and has fostered a deep understanding of quality teaching.

I have a degree in Fine Art, completing 5 years of full-time study at The National Art School, Sydney. I also attended the Ivan Englund Pottery School workshop in Sydney at that time.

I am a current CCPS member and pottery teacher at CCPS. I have my own kiln and have experience in successfully glazing, packing and firing ceramic pieces.

The aim of the hand building classes is to familiarise students with the feel of clay and teach them how to make robust joins, whether pinching, coiling or using slabs as the process. Students will create and complete at least one piece each week. In the four weeks, students will make an animal shape, a cylinder vase/tea light, a bowl and a plate. The teacher will bisque fire and glaze student work, either clear or white. Students to collect completed work at a later designated date.

My program overview is as follows.

Week 1 – Pinch pots – pinch pot with feet,

Two joined pinch pots to make an animal shape.

A clay ball to carve.

Week 2 – Slab vase/cylinder/tealight/mug

Week 3 – Scraped clay bowl on a plaster mold

Week 4 – Slab, foam pressed plate

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is plenty of on and off-street parking. However, we are located near several schools and when they have events, there can sometimes be difficulty finding a park close by. Please ensure you park legally to avoid a Council parking infringement.

What can I bring into the event?

Please refer to the list in your welcome email.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

If you have any queries, please contact the Education Manager via education@ccpotters.org
