'Getting back to basics: A practice update on bullying and anxiety'


The CCLHD Psychology Department Professional Development Day is an annual event open to all public and private sector professionals. Please note that the presentations are targeted at psychologists, but all professionals are welcome to attend.

Presentation 1: “The Impact of Bullying on Children and Young People: Strategies for Psychological Treatment”. Dr Sally Fitzpatrick, Clinical Psychologist, Everymind & Conjoint Senior Lecturer, University of Newcastle. 3 hours, 15 minutes.

Dr Sally Fitzpatrick is a Clinical Psychologist and Developmental Researcher who is passionate about assisting children, young people and their families manage and respond to challenges in their lives. Her research has primarily focused on understanding the factors that contribute to the mental ill-health of both children and adults, and the translation of this research into accessible evidence-based programs. This presentation will provide an overview of bullying, including definitions, prevalence, as well as antecedents and outcomes associated with bullying behaviours. Sally will also refer to individual and group-based intervention programs, as well as provide examples from her own clinical practice.

Presentation 2: “Incorporating iCBT into Clinical Practice: Improving Therapeutic Outcomes”. Amanda Sie, Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety and Depression (CRUfAD). 1 hour, 30 minutes.

In her role at CRUfAD, St Vincent’s Hospital, Amanda works with adults with complex anxiety disorders, provides clinical consultation to the online service at THIS WAY UP, and oversees clinical research trials at the Virtual Clinic. This presentation will aim to improve knowledge and confidence in using iCBT with clients with depressive and anxiety disorders. THIS WAY UP courses will be outlined, with consideration given to making treatment decisions, different ways of using iCBT, and how to help clients maximise benefit. The transdiagnostic approach to treating comorbid anxiety disorders and the recent RANZCP clinical practice guidelines for treating anxiety disorders will also be discussed.

Presentation 3: A series of small group presentations will run concurrently, with discussion led by psychologists in the CCLHD Psychology Department. 1 hour.

When do ticket sales end?

To assist with catering orders and photocopying orders tickets should be purchased by close of business Friday, November 8th, 2019.

What catering is provided?

Only morning tea is catered.

Where can food and drink be purchased on site?

Food and drink can be purchased either in the hospital main foyer or adjacent to the hospital auditorium.

What time does the registration desk open?

The registration desk will be open from 8:30am-9am for attendees to sign-in.

What should I bring to the event?

A jacket (as the room can be cool) and paper for note-taking.

What are my parking options for the event?

Free parking is available on the road at the western end of Racecourse Road and Faunce St West, Gosford. CCLHD has two paid parking stations. Parking station P1 has entry via both Racecourse Road and Holden Street (Southern end). Parking station P2 has entry via Showground Road. Please allow ample time to walk to and around the venue as the Hospital site is under substantial re-development.

What's the refund policy?

All refund requests must be submitted via eventbrite 7 days in advance. The ticket administration fee charged by eventbrite will not be refunded.

Is my ticket transferrable?

Yes. You are welcome to transfer your registration to a colleague up to and including November 14th, 2019. Please provide your colleague with a copy of your ticket to present at the registration desk at 8:30am. Please also advise our Administration Officer (listed below) of the name of your colleague.
