Event description

Description

Ever wanted to try your hand at casting with plaster? Join exhibiting Unfinished Business artist Sophie Takách for an evening spent creating experimental and unexpected forms with clay and plaster. In this hands-on casting workshop, you will explore impromptu mould making techniques, producing high fidelity reproductions of texture, volume and surface. All materials provided; be prepared to get your hands (and clothes!) dirty.

Sophie Takách makes performative sculptural objects that incorporate ephemeral installation and movement. The physical components are conceived as devices that enable further action to take place, acting as support structure or simple machines; basic mechanical objects that amplify the application of force. Drawing on a deep interest in science and the underlying physical processes of the universe, she exploits the interactions between force and matter to capture transitional states of change. The work (as a transfer of energy) directs attention to the habituated body and unreflective use of technology and power. Previous exhibitions include from one body to another with Fayen d’Evie at Casula Powerhouse, The Material Turn curated by Rebecca Coates, Margaret Lawrence Gallery, Benglis 73/74 curated by Geoff Newton at Sutton Gallery Project Space. She lives and works in Melbourne, and is currently undertaking postgraduate research at MADA, Monash University.
