About this event

Please note: this event is run by the Small Business Development Corporation for small business owners in Western Australia only.

This session is perfect if you’re in business but don’t understand financials and how they relate to each other and to business performance, or you’re making money but rarely have enough to pay bills on time. Or perhaps you’re just about to start a business but have no financial experience.

Using a board-based hands-on business simulation exercise, you will be guided through a series of daily transactions that mirror real life business decisions. As you prepare the balance sheet and profit & loss statements for this fictitious business you’ll learn where the numbers come from and be encouraged to suggest where and how to improve business performance. These are powerful, visual learnings to use in your own business.

This session includes a follow-up mentoring session with the presenting accountant, to see how your new knowledge could be applied within your own business.

This topic covers

  • Understanding cash flow;
  • Managing working capital;
  • Preparing a balance sheet and profit & loss statement;
  • Understanding the relationship between key financial number.

This session is for people already in business but lacking financial understanding, or those who are just about to start their own business.

The facilitators for this topic are qualified accountants from Nexia Perth, WA's 9th largest accounting group with 80+ local staff, small business specialists and part of the Nexia International network of accounting firms.

This session is presented by the SBDC, the only agency in the Western Australian Government dedicated to helping small business. In fact, we've been providing practical support to small business owners for more than 30 years.
