Description

This forum will address the changing energy environment in Australia, and key considerations on the pathway to carbon reduction and renewable energy. It will also discuss how this change may occur to ensure a smooth transition, with an affordable, secure and reliable energy supply.

Breakfast will first be served during the networking section of the event, followed by presentations and discussions with the panel, and to end, there will be a Q&A between the panelists and members of the audience.


With speakers:

Paul Graham who is Chief Economist Energy at CSIRO. In this role he is responsible for advice on the global and national economic context relevant for the energy sector, setting the strategic direction for economic and social science research and leading major projects. Mr Graham has been with CSIRO for 17 years and prior to that was a senior research officer at the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics. He developed and led the landmark Future Grid Forum project in 2013 and recently completed the Electricity Network Transformation Roadmap in partnership with Energy Networks Australia.

Mr Mervyn Davies who has worked in all areas of electricity distribution and has extensive experience in managing both the financial and technical performance of the business. He has previously held senior management positions at Energy Australia (now Ausgrid), Australia’s largest electricity distribution company. Mr Davies operates an engineering consultancy practice, specialising in the engineering and economics of the electricity distribution industry, and currently holds a directorship in the Power and Water Corporation NT. He also currently holds directorships in electricity distribution businesses in Western Australia, Queensland and Tasmania. He holds honours and master’s degrees in engineering and a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics).

John Blik (Moderator) who is the Director of Renaissance Energy Australia, a niche energy consultancy providing management and technical consulting services including energy project evaluation, development and management; renewable/hybrid energy systems modelling; research consulting; energy efficiency; energy and carbon management, and workshop facilitation. John has previously held roles with major Australian manufacturing companies including Orica, Qenos (ExxonMobil/Orica joint venture) and CSR, and also spent two years in Africa working on solar energy applied research and development projects. John is a Chartered Chemical Engineer and Chartered Scientist (IChemE), and actively contributes to a number of professional networks including current National President of the Australian Institute of Energy.
