Description

Matthew Flinders Anglican College warmly invites you to an informative evening on the topic of Cyber Safety for Teens on Thursday, 19 October at 6:30 pm.

In this digital age, children spend large amounts of time on devices surfing the internet for educational or social reasons. 'Caring For Our Teens In The Digital Age: What Parents Need To Know' will be presented by Steve Window who spent 22 years with the Queensland Police Force including time conducting online investigations with Task Force Argus. Steve is now the Cyber Safety Officer with the Anglican Schools Commission.

Over the course of the evening, Steve will discuss:

  • AIDE Principle: Application, Internet, Device, Educate and Engage

  • Online risks to our children

  • What parents and carers can do if something goes wrong

  • How parents and carers help reduce the risk to their child

  • Additional online support and training offered to parents by the Anglican Schools Commission

CYBER-SAFETY CHAMPION NETWORK INTRODUCED

The Anglican Schools Commission has established an exciting and innovative concept, the Cyber Safety Champion Network to assist schools with creating and maintaining a safe on-line environment for students. The concept of a Cyber Safety Champion Network recognises the role Champions have in driving cultural change and improving practices, and aims to bring key school staff together to support the sharing and strengthening of cyber safety practices across Anglican Schools in Queensland.

The Cyber Safety Champion Network will consist of school-based Cyber Safety Champion/s from each participating school and will be chaired by Steve Window, Cyber Safety Support Officer ASC. Steve McLean, Head of Learning Technologies, has been appointed as the Matthew Flinders Anglican College nominee on this committee.
