Event description
1 Day workshop introducing cardboard as the matrix for making a plate for drypoint and carborundum as well as other techniques.

About this Event

Cardboard Drypoint and carborundum is a Makers Studio members only  workshop.This workshop is based on the work of international printmaker Jenny Robinson (jennyrobinson.com) who has perfected the use of a cardboard matrix to produce drypoints. Check out her website for a range of examples of work using the method.

 The technique uses cardboard as the substrate, which is coated with a varnish and then worked on with a range of tools, other materials and stencil knives similar to a metal plate. You explore some additions of carborundum to produce intense areas of dark.

Works can be small or large scale and for the most part is a non toxic technique as no acids or turps are required. The substrate prints quite satisfactorily to 10 prints but may do more.

Its real advantage is in cost, especially for large works. I use Charbonnel ink and enlist a variety of wiping techniques to ensure a full range of tones to produce dramatic light and dark.

Textures are not added to the surface as with a collograph and so is a drypoint rather than a collograph.

COST = $80 FOR A 1 DAY WORKSHOP. ( ALL MATERIALS SUPPLIED)
