This one-day program is designed to increase knowledge and confidence required to accurately count carbohydrates in exchanges and grams to match differnt insulin regimes and insulin pump therapy.
The program will provide Dietitians with skills to teach clients to carbohydrate count, and Diabetes Educators to understand the principles when working with clients to manage type I, type II and gestational diabetes.
Topics will include:
Process for carbohydrate counting
Carbohydrate counting using exchanges
Carbohydrate counting in grams for flexible insulin therapy (MDI) and insulin pump therapy
Using food labels, online food databases, weighing and measuring foods
Calculation of carbohydrate in meals and recipes, and for eating out
