About this event

[CANCELLED]

Song is Existence (Gesang ist Dasein – Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus) is a poetry reading and classical music performance devoted to the continuing influence of major German-language poets and philosophers on Australian poetry.

Australian poets, Judith Beveridge, David Brooks, Luke Fischer, and Felicity Plunkett will perform and discuss their poems that engage in dialogue with modern German poetry. Jeanell Carrigan (piano) and Goetz Richter (violin) will perform musical works – ranging from the classical period to the present – that draw on German poetry. Join us for a lively and thought-provoking evening of poetry, music, and discussion.

This will be the closing event of the international workshop, German Poetry and Philosophy: Hölderlin, Rilke, Celan, hosted by the Goethe-Institut in collaboration with the University of Sydney.
