Marymead Builders and Makers

Social skills are a typical area of difficulty for children on the Autism Spectrum.
Developing social skills has been found to happen most successfully using favourite activities and interests to encourage engagement, curiosity, communication, sharing and waiting for a turn. Lego is commonly a strong interest for children with autism and is ideal to use as a tool to teach and practice social skills.

Libraries ACT together with the Marymead Autism Centre are excited to introduce a 5 session fortnightly program for children developmentally aged 7-11 years. The program aims to help build the skills needed to follow direction, work in a small team and self-regulate in a safe place. Families will be offered additional information on Library services and membership at these sessions.

Parents/carers must stay with the children at all times and will be on-hand to assist their child with elements of the program.

Please note that bookings are for 5 sessions over a 10 week commitment.

Families are encouraged to bring a small snack if needed, no nuts, a water bottle and activities for siblings as they will not be able to participate.

Session 1 - Thursday 9 May 4.00 - 4.45pm
