Event Information
About this Event
This teacher professional learning session will discuss common student misconceptions about plate tectonics, provide current information and activity ideas. Learn from our experienced Education Team what misconceptions your students may hold about tectonic plates. The session will provide the latest scientific understandings about plate tectonics by addressing a number of common misunderstandings held by students such as:
- you cannot see the tectonic plates,
- the plates are made of crust,
- convection drives plate movements,
- the mantle is made of liquid rock, and
- all earthquakes are measured using the Richter scale.
You will learn about teaching resources and activities to use with your classes including hands-on demonstrations, activities and suggested multimedia supplementary material.
The team will have an expert scientist on hand to answer your more technical questions.
Suitable for secondary science, earth and environmental science and geography teachers.
