Event description

Description

As we approach high summer, this is an excellent form of Qigong to practice. The heart is a yin organ, its corresponding yang organ is the small intestine. It links to the element fire, the season of summer and the direction south. Its emotion is that of joy. Both over-excitement of the heart and depression need to be balanced by peace and calm orderliness, li.

Qigong, with correct breathing, strengthens the heart muscle and increases the stroke volume, enabling more oxygen to be delivered. Relaxation and deep abdominal breathing cause the blood vessels to relax and dilate slightly, reducing blood pressure. In Qigong, the mind and breath are united by concentrating the mind on the dantian, so as to reach a state in which the breathing is deep, even and led by the mind – whatever you believe that to be.

There are 8 moves to learn which can be adapted for anyone.

FAQs

Is there a minimum or maximum age? How fit or flexible do I need to be?

Anyone under sixteen must be accompanied by a responsible adult. That's the legal side. Other than that, the exercises are suitable for all ages as they undertaken slowly and there are options for anyone with sore knees/high blood pressure etc.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is ample free parking at the Hall. The 926 bus stops at the hall going south and across the road and up the hill a bit going north.

What should I bring?

Clothing should enable you to move freely. The floor is wooden – it's up to you whether you wear shoes or not. There are short periods of meditation at the beginning and end of the day (10 minutes or so) so you may wish to bring something to sit or lie on.

What's included in the price?

Refreshments are provided. If you are staying for the full day, you may wish to bring something light to share for lunch.
A handout on the exercise is provided, usually emailed to you the week before.
Booking fees are paid by the organiser.
