Event description

Description

The Calmbirth® for Midwives Workshop will be an opportunity to learn extra tools and techniques to facilitate calm and positive birth experiences for the families we care for.

Calmbirth® is an evidence based childbirth education program designed by Australian midwife Peter Jackson. The program is founded on research from neuroscience, midwifery, obstetrics and epigenetics, and is clinically and scientifically proven. As a result, Calmbirth® has been recognised as one of the most holistic, thorough and collaboratively designed courses that addresses all the needs of birthing couples on an emotional and physical level.

The philosophy of Calmbirth® is that ‘with knowledge comes confidence’. Calmbirth assists women to birth calmly and confidently and recent research results show it can lead to a reduction in intervention rates. Calmbirth however, is not about how women give birth but rather how couples can work together with their birthing team to create the most positive birth experience.

Topics covered on the day will include:

The power of beliefs and the role they play in the experience of birth
The mind – body connection and birth: how it can work for or against the physiology of birthing
Positive language and birth
The breath: a powerful tool for labour and birth
Tools for creating a calm birth environment
Including dads/partners in the birth process
Assisting women to make informed decisions so that if intervention is required they can feel positive about their experience.
Hands on techniques - massage, acupressure, rebozo & active birth positions, to assist comfort levels in labour.

The workshop will be facilitated by Calmbirth practitioner Tracey Browne, a registered midwife who has been teaching Calmbirth to couples on the Sunshine Coast for 5 years.

Workshop cost includes morning tea and lunch catered by Goodlife Cafe.
