Event description
As part of Heritage Festival 2022, come delve into the untold stories of Callan Park.

About this event

Tickets available from Tuesday, April 5 at 9am.

A book 20 years in the making will surely be intriguing. Callan Park: The Jewel of the West tells the history of Callan Park from 1870-1960 as a mental hospital and estate.

It is a journey of discovery that uncovers facts and political manoeuvring not published before. The government’s predominant focus - through its bureaucrats - was on costs, structure, and process but others had different ideas. Change came with a handful of unlikely people; a female psychiatrist and her friends; two young nurses; one psychopathic doctor; a patient’s brother; a few buck-passing bureaucrats; a newspaper and a Royal Commission. This story also involves the CIA.
