Bethel is home to 70 visually impaired orphans and provides a safe and stimulating environment in which visually impaired orphans of all ages and abilities can grow, laugh and experience a full, rich life.
In China, Bethel runs the ‘Love is Blind project’
Love is Blind runs 3 centres for blind children, each with a different focus, including early intervention, primary school, high school and long-term care. Each centre provides high quality care, education, life skills and livelihood opportunities for children. Children come to Bethel from over 35 orphanages across the country, to receive individual care and education with a focus on visual impairment.
The outreach project runs education and training workshops every 3 months in different parts of China. Workshop attendees include orphanage staff, teachers and parents of blind children. They have created a range of educational resources, including a manual and DVD series about care and education for visually impaired children.
Guillaume and Delphine Gauvain moved to Beijing, China in 2003 and opened a foster home for blind orphans. Starting with just 3 children, in the past 10 years the project has expanded to serve over 130 children in four foster homes, and thousands more through training and outreach.
