Do you want to help people, but sometimes don’t know what to say?

Do you get worried you are saying the ‘wrong’ thing?
Do you have trouble setting boundaries with people who look to you for assistance?
Do you want to feel more confident when supporting other people?

Accidental counselling refers to situations where emotional support is given by one person to another person and where the person giving support is not a trained counsellor.

The Counselling Skills for the Accidental Counsellor workshop is practical, interactive and will benefit anyone required to provide regular, or occasional, informal support.

By the end of the workshop, you will develop skills in the following areas:

• Definition and key attributes of an “accidental counsellor”
• Empathy, body language and active listening skills
• Effective questions to empower others
• Solution-focused approach
• How to avoid “fixing” others
• The importance of not giving advice
• Closing/ending an Accidental Counselling conversation
• Responses that are not useful
• Tips for managing the “tricky” character types
• Referring onto services

This is an all-day workshop. Refreshments and light lunch will be provided.
