Overview

The Art of Reattaching Buttons

Lost buttons happen to the best of us — but now you can bring your favourites back to life with confidence! In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to sew on a button properly (yes, there is a right way!), keep loose ones from falling off, and understand which buttons work best for different fabrics and garments.

Whether you’re repairing, re-wearing, or re-loving your wardrobe, this session will give you the confidence to keep your clothes in circulation a little longer. Come along, get creative, and button it up with us!

Together we’ll explore:

🧵 The differences between flat, shank, and decorative buttons

✂️ How to get your thread tension just right

🧷 How to create a thread shank so thicker fabrics sit neatly

🔘 Simple tricks for reinforcing wobbly or loose buttons

Then you’ll put your new skills to the test by stitching a variety of buttons onto practice fabric or an old garment you’d like to revive.

All materials are provided, including colourful threads, fabric scraps, and a selection of buttons to play with.

And to keep your mending journey going, you’ll also take home a mini repair kit!
