Event Details

The Business Research and Design (BRD) learning and teaching team are pleased to announce an exclusive upcoming industry experience week where we will be visiting two initiatives of the Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL), the Brotherhood Sorting Warehouse in Sunshine and Youth Foyer in Broadmeadows.

BSL Industry Experience Week is available to all BRD students enrolled in either the face to face (BUSM4448) or OUA (BUSM4449). These sessions have been designed specifically for RMIT BRD students and tours to any of the BSL venues are not available to public.

This is a rare opportunity to delve into the strategy and execution of BSL’s social enterprises and programs offered to help alleviate poverty and support young people.

Sorting Warehouse Tour

FREE

BSL receives thousands of generous donations of a range of clothing, books, electrical goods, furniture and other treasures each year. These goods are sorted and shipped to the community stores in different suburbs, The community stores are designed not only to provide a thrifty fashionista a trendy place to shop, but all goods are sold at a low-cost for people in need.

Each of these stores are social enterprises that raise much needed funds for BSL programs to prevent and alleviate poverty in Australia.

The tours will be facilitated by the warehouse’s General Manager as we explore how strategy is applied to conceive a social enterprise, how it operates and the results/impact that it has to society. You will have the opportunity to ask insightful questions about social enterprises that will help you understand and unpack your ideas into an operating business model.
