The Global Alliance for Banking on Values is a membership organisation made up of the world’s leading sustainable banks. bankmecu is currently the only Australian member of the Global Alliance and is hosting the Global Alliance's annual meeting in Melbourne this March.

Redefining capitalism – financing our future prosperity

Governments around the world are struggling to meet a growing demand for services as well as to finance economic development and environmental sustainability. Does the opportunity for a new economic model exist? Can a new approach to capitalism emerge where investors, markets and financial institutions create shared value and prosperity? A world where business generates financial return while also creating positive societal, environmental or economic benefit?

  • Professor Durreen Shahnaz, Founder and Chair of Impact Investment Exchange Asia
    Durreen is the Founder and Chairwoman of the Impact Investment Stock Exchange and Founder and Managing Director of Shujog. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. 
  • Pavan Sukhdev, CEO of GIST Advisory, Visiting Fellow Yale University, Former Head of UNEPFI Green Economy Initiative and Deutsche Bank
    Pavan is Founder-CEO of GIST Advisory, a specialist consulting firm which helps governments and corporations discover, measure, value, and manage their impacts on natural and human capital. 
  • Glen Saunders, Chair of UN Principles of Responsible Investment
    Glen chairs the Board of the UN-supported Principles of Responsible Investment, a global investment initiative which has as signatories over 1,200 of the world’s leading superannuation funds and investment managers. 
  • Rumee Ali, Director and Board Member of BRAC Bank and Board Member of Global Alliance for Banking on Values
    Rumee is a Director of BRAC Bank, a Bangladeshi bank focused on providing low cost services to customers. Prior to joining BRAC, he served as the deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank.
  • Helga Birgden, Partner and Head of Responsible Investment for Asia Pacific at Mercer
    Helga provides clients with research and advice on impact investing, climate change and environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices. She recently co-authored the Global Investor Initiatives on Climate Change report 
    for the IFC, World Bank Group and G20 (2013).
