Event Details

Data Privacy issues are growing in importance to modern businesses. If your business collects information on clients and staff, you need to be aware of the changing landscape in this area.

Technology allows us to store, collect and disclose information easily, and with that comes greater responsibilities for businesses to secure that information. But what happens when it goes wrong? What are you obligations under the new Notifiable Data Breach regime? What what constitutes ‘serious harm’?

In this session, we will focus on providing an overview of current privacy issues and address some practical compliance and risk mitigation strategies. We will also discuss the amendments to the Privacy Act commencing on 22 February 2018 relating to the Notifiable Data Breach regime.

Information subject to privacy rules includes but is not limited to:

  • Copies of licences, passports and other identity documents
  • Name and address details from purchasing
  • Tax files numbers
  • Credit card details
  • Medical records
