6.45 pm - Learn - Bushfoods of the Toowoomba Region
Presented by Kemp Killerby from Flora 4 Fauna Australia
Kemp will talk to us about Native Australian Bushfoods that are endemic to the Toowoomba Region and can be successfully grown in our own backyards. Many of these plants are also host plants to a range of native Australian fauna including birds, bees and butterflies, so Kemp will talk about the symbiotic relationships between host plants and their sometimes rare and endangered wildlife companions.
He will also bring a range of plants including bushfoods, bush medicines and fauna attracting host plants for anyone interested in purchasing plants for their own backyard. Plants will be $5 - $10 each and all sales are cash only.
Kemp has a love of nature inspired by his father and grandfather, and extensive experience studying and working in sustainable food production and native Australian bushfoods. Through Flora 4 Fauna, his community-based educational service, Kemp now spends his time encouraging people to use native food sources by hosting eco tours, presenting talks and workshops, native plant sales and sustainable bushfood and biodiversity projects.
