Event description

Description

Join us this Autumn for play and learning outdoors in the Australian Botanic Garden.

As the days start to cool, we'll be outside exploring and looking for the many changes that are occurring amongst the plants and animals of the Garden. See below for the themes we'll be covering each week.

“The staff and the activities really hit the right mark! Perfect length, variety, and I loooved encouraging an appreciation and respect for nature. My daughter was really engaged and interested, and she had a wonderful time! Such a great morning, thank you so much!” - Bush Playgroup parent

Experienced Early Years Nature Educators will facilitate play-based activities and nature experiences with you and your little one. This special 5-week program aims to help children grow and develop with and in nature. Children will climb, dig, explore, build, engage their senses, discover and play! Each week’s program is a combination of nature-based activities, games and stories, combined with supervised free-play time in the garden’s nature play area.

Children must be accompanied by an adult carer. Siblings under 2.5 years of age may accompany the parent or carer of an enrolled sibling but will not be formally included into the program.

Every Wednesday for 5 weeks starting Wednesday 2nd May until Wednesday 30th May, 2018.

Your Term Pass ticket enrols you and your child into the program for the whole 5 weeks.

Week 1
Wednesday 2 May
Sensory Explorers
Explore the world with more than your eyes! Children will gain confidence and independence through using their different senses. We’ll go on a texture treasure hunt and look for items that are fluffy, crunchy, hard and smooth.
Week 2
Wednesday 9 May
Move!
Children will explore how living things move through their world – do they fly, creep or crawl? We’ll also practice moving our own bodies - can you move through the obstacle course backwards? Or blindfolded? Join us to find out!
Week 3
Wednesday 16 May
Teeny tinies
Meet and learn about the tiny creatures that we often overlook! Children will continue their exploration of the Garden’s many habitats, while developing their investigative and information skills. We’ll get down low and look up high to find the wonderful insects that call the Garden home.
Week 4
Wednesday 23 May
Home Sweet Home
Everything needs a place to call home! By now our Bush Playgroup children will be familiar with our nature play area and we will build on that by practising our skills in noticing details. Children will have the opportunity to make a mini creature and think of a suitable place for its home. We’ll play a matching game where you’ll have to think quick and keep your eyes peeled!
Week 5
Wednesday 30 May
Yummy Tummies
What do creatures eat in the bush? Children will work collaboratively with friends they have made over the program to look for signs and traces of the animals’ favourite foods. Clue: poos can tell you a lot about what an animal eats! As it’s our last week, we’ll finish off with something for our Bush Playgroup kids to eat too.
