The refurbishment of the old UTS Dunbar building into the Cameraygal building at St Leonards TAFE NSW campus won 2 awards and a commendation at the 2015 NSW Architecture awards, as well as a commendation at the National Architecture awards.
The brutalist concrete shell - which had been used as a laboratory for UTS, was converted into a light and airy education space for TAFE NSW. The retofitted and refurbished building was designed to showcase our commitment to sustainable practices by recycling a disused structure, reducing waste by reusing building materials and using sustainable design principles.
The tours showcases the changes that were undertaken, adding light and space while still allowing the old building to peep out through. The tour, only 1 hr, concludes with a visit to the roof which has the best views in Sydney.
No high heels please, and prams will not be able to access the roof.
