ABOUT THE SESSION
During the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, millions of educators and students saw themselves confined at home as schools around the world closed their doors. No one knew when they could go back to school. Despite this, many school leaders have risen to the challenge and innovated to navigate these uncharted waters.
In this session, leaders from the school sectors in ASEAN and Australia will share how they have led a range of school and system-wide responses to the educational disruptions caused by the pandemic.
They will also explore how you can adapt these strategies for your schools and institutions while sharing best practices and relevant, actionable strategies for helping school leaders and educators in Australia and the ASEAN region.
This session will explore:
- What are the most important leadership and intercultural skills required in schools and how can these skill sets be developed?
- How can school leaders work with parents and the community to create a holistic learning environment in these uncertain times?
- How can school leaders support teachers and students to become creative learning partners rather than just teaching and learning to pass exams?
- What can school leaders do to support, motivate and empower their teachers as they juggle remote teaching with their personal lives?
- How can school leaders mobilise resources and engage with various stakeholders in planning for remote learning?
- How can schools learn to embrace technology to keep track of their students' learning and well-being?
- How can school leaders ensure that essential education services, including mental and social support are made available to all students

This led to the creation of our practitioner-focused webinar series, the first of which, Educational Leadership in a Crisis, was held in September 2020, with an accompanying handbook published in December. The second webinar series, Positive School Culture in the New Normal, commenced on 21 February 2021.
