BUILDING RESILIENCE: PRACTICAL SKILLS
with Dr Alison Robb

Trying to build a career in the arts is no cakewalk…the uncertainty, periodic isolation, rejection and constant striving can really take a toll. And yet – we are passionate beings, committed to making our art and living our values. So what can we do to look after ourselves and each other on the long road to a sustainable artistic practice?

In this half-day (4 hour) workshop, Dr Alison Robb, a psychologist, former theatre director and practising artist will guide the group through information and skills training with the goal of helping manage stress and build resilience. Alison will present a brief talk, followed by group discussions and practical skills training in areas such as:

  • mindful self-compassion
  • spotting mental health difficulties
  • values clarification
  • guided imagery
  • getting ‘unhooked’ from self-criticism
  • working with difficult emotions
  • relaxation training.

There will be opportunities to record the exercises for your future use. A comprehensive resource list will be provided.
