About the training

Caring for a child in foster care is extremely rewarding. As a carer you are assisting a child to develop a sense of security, positive healing relationships, self-esteem and a positive sense of identity that will carry them through life. When we are caring for children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds we have a particular interest in developing positive cultural identity. This engaging and interactive workshop gives carers the confidence and practical strategies to engage with their child's culture in rewarding and meaningful ways.

The workshop will:

  • explore the influence of culture in the foster care context

  • identify the impact of racism and prejudice on cultural identity

  • identify strategies to support the maintenance and development of positive cultural connections and identity
