About this event

Overview

Data is driving the demand for a new type of business leader who can be the critical link between data science and organisational strategy. This workshop has been designed for professionals who want to be leaders of organisations that are shaped by data science and transformed for the future.

This online workshop will give you insights into in-demand data skills that can be applied across key business functions as well as the strategy and leadership skills to engage, communicate and influence at an executive level.

Note - This online workshop will be split over two consecutive morning sessions.

Outline

Session 1: Using quality data

Information has always been a key commodity for any successful business, and never has this been more true than right now, in an increasingly digital world. Private sector companies and public sector services rely heavily on data analysis to reveal trends and meaning that help them to make more productive and profitable decisions. But data analysis is useless if the quality of the data is poor.

Data Quality Frameworks (DQF’s) serve as the highest-level governance tool for quality management. DQF’s gives an overarching view of quality management and risk mitigation strategies. This session will provide participants insights into data quality best practices through the six dimensions of the DQF.

End-to-end data analytics is the process by which an analyst arrives at the final human-friendly reports from their original datasets. This process involves multiple layers of data transformations, data blending, and data consolidations. The data starts as disparate sources. It goes through blending and transformations before being consolidated. This consolidated data is then transformed to generate reports and visualizations including data dashboards.

Participants in this session will gain an understanding of the processes, systems, and practices involved from high-quality data collection to creating reliable and actionable insights that are critical in developing evidence for informed decision making at the executive level.

Session 2: Minimising business risk and ensuring compliance through data governance

Data governance is the best way to help organizations become data-centric. Knowledge of the ins and outs is powerful and people who can drive adoption become valuable leaders in the organization. Data governance is an organizational discipline. It is supported by technology, but not technology in itself. True data governance puts the rules in place and aligns the organization so data becomes a powerful asset, not a potential liability.

Data governance means an organization can trust their data to answer important questions, like which products in which markets are likely to deliver the highest revenue. Bad data means bad answers, which lead to bad decisions, which can hurt an organization. This session will examine the data governance framework including roles and responsibilities. Participants will also learn how to put data management and sharing into practice.

Session 3: Applying data to drive decision making

Analytics frameworks are designed to structure an analyst's thinking, help systematically drive logical thinking, and aims to guide and facilitate sense-making and understanding. It is an iterative, process that helps us to frame and define complex issues and develop a strong evidence base. It also provides visibility to measure performance, develop deeper insight into issues, translate data into actions and then test those solutions to produce a continuously improving data-driven process.

By effectively defining the problem we can then best describe performance issues (what is going well and what needs to be improved), when we have visibility on this we can then delve deeper into the causes of issues once we have this information we can then craft the most effective solutions and quality assure those solutions to ensure they are working effectively. This session will provide participants a practical framework that will help them develop evidence for better decision-making.
