Event description
'The Essentials' covers everything you need to know as an artist or arts worker.

About this event

In an increasingly digital world, having a website that is not only informative and functional, but compelling and evocative is becoming more and more important. Melbourne-based artist, writer and web-wizard, Kiah Reading asks us to think about what a personal or portfolio website has the capacity to be. In this workshop you will be guided through the process of building basic websites using HTML and CSS languages to develop the skills necessary to publish to the www in unique ways, focusing on different graphic forms and navigation. Kiah will also explore the underlying concept of a hand-coded web which is positioned at odds with today's highly commercialized internet landscape to expand the way that we communicate about ourselves and our artworks online.

This workshop aims to give you a working URL which you are able to build upon with the skills you will develop. Please bring a laptop to the workshop so you are able to participate fully. If you do not have access to a laptop inform our team (admin@outerspacebrisbane.org) and we will organize a solution.

Kiah Reading is an artist and web developer who works alongside individuals and arts institutions to design and develop bespoke websites to present artworks, research and digital programs. Most recently he collaborated with Brisbane's Institute of Modern Art in the realisation of their large-scale online program, Making Art Work (2020). His own browser based artworks have been presented by Liquid Architecture (Melbourne), Torna (Istanbul), Garua (Lima), Bisagra (Lima), Digital Artist Residency (London) & The Wrong Biennial (W.W.W). Kiah has been a finalist of the ArteVue ArtePrize at the Delfina Foundation, London and participant of the Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art, Berlin.

This project is made possible by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
