Building A Local Food Community
Event Information
About this Event
Hear from a past Food Matters participant Manuela Broeckelmann about her experience building a resilient food system. Connect with others and start your journey in healthy, sustainable food.
Manuela Broeckelmann is a student, business owner, mother, and wife. She was born in Germany and migrated to Australia 17 years ago. Manuela has worked in the Mechanical engineering field for most of her life but in 2017 she decided it was time for a change.Instead of repairing machines, she went back to University to study Human Nutrition. After she participated in one of the first Food Embassy workshops and course , she was inspired to make a change in our local primary school and with help of the principal/teaching staff and other parents implemented a gardening program into their school curriculum. In this program children learn how to grow vegetables and use the fresh produce to create healthy food options, this intervention supports Manuela`s mission to make healthy habits accessible to everyone by nurturing a healthier and fitter generation one step at a time.Manuela also makes and sells her own food products using local native ingredients.
There will be a Sharing Table at this session. We invite you to bring along any excess produce from your gardens, seeds or seedlings that you would like to add to the table to share with the other attendees. This is not compulsory – only if you wish.
This is a free event brought to you by Alexandrina Libraries, The Food Embassy and the Strathalbyn Neighbourhood Centre.
