Contents

Most academic researchers know econometric techniques very well but know rather little about machine learning techniques. That lack of knowledge is undesirable because both techniques solve similar problems but machine learning recently gained strongly in popularity, in particular in the industry. The aim of this workshop is to provide those researchers that have little knowledge about machine learning with a good understanding about the basic ideas of machine learning and first insights into the basic ideas of some algorithms of supervised learning such as decision trees, regression trees as well as ensemble methods such as random forests.
