What we'll cover

(1 March) Workshop 1 - Teaching tips for TAE trainers delivering and assessing the TAELLN411

This webinar is designed for TAE trainers, to help them get new ideas to effectively deliver and assess TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills.  TAELLN411 participants have diverse profiles, industries and needs in relation to this unit and it can be challenging to meet all needs within TAELLN411 training.

This webinar covers:

  • TAELLN411 learners: their characteristics and needs
  • Instructional tips: approaches, resources and support:
    • Acknowledging why this unit is important
    • Teaching priorities:  build knowledge, skill and willingness to explore more--can’t cover everything in TAELLN411 training
    • What the LLN specialists want us to emphasise
    • Tailoring delivery for different industries
  • Strategies for ongoing professional development opportunities for TAELLN411 trainers.

(8 March) Workshops 2 - Teaching tips for trainers with young adult learners (Gen Y/ Z)

Young adult learners live in a world with 24/7 access to information through the mobile devices, and where they are continuously connected through social media. This often means that they have different expectations for how they will access and engage in their training.  They may also need more experiences to develop the foundation skills needed for a workplace environment.

This webinar covers:

  • Understanding young adult learners’ different learning needs
  • Tailoring teaching strategies to address foundation skills gaps which incorporate young adult learner expectations
  • Creating ongoing opportunities for building young adult learners’ foundation skills

(15 March) Webinar 3 - Teaching tips for trainers with ESL learners

Delivering training in adult training and assessment environments involves facilitating diverse groups of learners, including students with English as a Second Language or ESL learners.  ESL learners require a range of strategies to help them build their foundation skills for functioning in an Australian workplace.

This webinar covers:

  • Understanding the differing foundation skill needs of ESL students

Build it in: Tips to build your learners' foundation skills within adult education and training offered an introduction to foundation skills in the Australian context and separate webinars with teaching tips for each of the 5 ACSF core skills (Australian Core Skills Framework).  Tips and strategies to develop these skills using technology assisted tools were also included.

About the facilitators - Join our four experienced facilitators whose complementary areas of expertise combine to offer a range of perspectives:

P1000219 copy (3) croppedAnn Leske is an Adult Language Literacy and Numeracy consultant, with 17 years of teaching experience in the VET sector. Ann has contributed to published outcomes that have influenced others and provided new approaches. Ann leads professional development and consultations which enable workplaces, RTOs, and teachers to obtain LLN insight and confidently approach LLN delivery within their adult education and training contexts. Ann has taught LLN and VET teachers the current LLN qualifications.

Chemene-SinsonChemène Sinson is a learning and development consultant who specialises in TAE qualifications and other non-accredited programs.  She has extensive experience consulting, designing and delivering TAE Certificate IV and Diploma programs for various private, community, government and industry-based RTOs. In recent years she has focused her own professional development on language, literacy and numeracy development through VET.

Allison MillerAllison Miller has been a professional learning and business development leader for 20 years. She is the director and principal consultant of Vanguard Visions, an organisation which specialises in cutting edge e-business and e-learning solutions, and provides essential connected services. Allison has a Master of Learning and Development (Organisational development).  She also leads the Digital Capability - Doing it Smarter online community, the ePortfolios Australia professional network and the national Moodle-Mahara Meetup event.

Michael Coghlan is an associate consultant with Vanguard Visions.  Michael has been working as a creator, facilitator and thinker around elearning environments since 1997. He was a co-founder of the Webheads online community, and currently works as an elearning facilitator for the adult vocational and training sector in Australia, and as an independent elearning consultant. Michael has presented at several national and international conferences as a keynote or invited speaker, and designed and delivered courses on English as a Second Language (ESL).

Ann and Chemène have joined forces to create the LLN and VET Meeting Place, an intersection of LLN and VET practitioners. They are delighted to have Allison and Michael of Vanguard Visions join them for this workshop and contribute her expertise.
