Event description

Description

Australia’s toughest 161 km rail trail cycling challenge event.

Back in the days when the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail was a railway line, the trains normally took about 6 hours to travel from Wulkuraka Station to Yarraman, depending on how much time the train crew spent in the Linville pub on the way up. How will your time compare? You will be surprised - riding the whole BVRT from end to end is an intense experience. Just completing the course is a fantastic acheivement.

When we ran a trial for this event last year, the fastest time was 6 hours and 39 minutes over a distance of 167 km, including the road detour around the incomplete section between Toogoolawah and Moore.

This event will be the first BVRT end-to-end bike race on the fully completed rail trail. That's right, no diversions. Just 161 km of adventure rail trail including the great new section from Toogoolawah to Moore.

Just completing the course is a major achievement, but if you can get anywhere near the time that a train used to take, you're a super human.

We’re aiming to establish two new records:

1) The fastest time to complete the entire Brisbane Valley Rail Trail from End-to-End.

2) The largest number of people to cycle the entire Brisbane Valley Rail Trail in a single day.

This is gravel racing for a total distance of 161 km with a net height gain of 375 metres on a fairly rough track, with a number of challenges along the way. RFID event timing will be used.

First prize: A luxury week-end for two value $600 at the Wiikirri B & B Retreat in Blackbutt with great access to forestry trails suitable for mountain biking.
Second prize: A week-end for two at the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Motel in Esk
Third prize: Lunch for two at Nash Cafe in Esk (Voucher)

All podium finishers will also receive a customised BVRT E2E cycling shirt designed byJakazni with your name on it.

Equal prizes for men and women.

Participants are expected to be self-sufficient, but there will a safety team shadowing the event to give assistance if required. There will be check-points at Esk, Moore, and Blackbutt where support crews can offer assistance, but they may not offer assistance between the checkpoints unless you are abandining.

Free water and snacks will be available at the check-points.

The event will start in the dark at 6.00 a.m. in the IGS playing fields adjacent to the Brassal Bikeway/Brisbane Valley Rail Trail and may finish in the dark for anyone who hasn’t completed the course by 5.00 p.m.

Mobile phone, adequate water, off road lights, a basic first aid kit including snake bite bandage, a puncture repair kit and basic tools, and a light-weight, warm jacket will be mandatory. Participants can either carry food or obtain food at shops and cafes along the way.

Free water and snacks will be available at Esk, Moore and Blackbutt.

This is an event for experienced and fit cyclists only. It's unsuitable for anyone who has not had recent experience of riding 160+ km off-road in a single day.

Bicycles must be suitable for riding off-road – mountain bikes or cyclocross bikes are recommended.

Join the BVRT E2E Facebook Group where participants can ask questions, share information, offer training advice, and hang out with fellow participants.

After arrival at Yarraman Station, we will direct participants to the nearby Royal Hotel pub in Yarraman to recover and wait for transport in comfortable surroundings. Sufficient coaches and semi-trailers to transport people and bikes back to Wulkuraka will be available at 4.00 pm and wil depart when they are full @ $45. There will also be a mini-bus service for late arrivals at around 6.00 pm.

As usual, you ride with us at your own risk.

During registration you will be asked to accept our terms and conditions.
