Thank you for your interest in attending our final Yoga Australia State Meeting for 2017.

This is a special meeting for the year as it doubles as a Yoga Teaching & Yoga Therapy CPD event. Please join us. meet your peers, participate in discussion, learn from our presenters and help make the sangha meaningful and successful.

Please note the change in time from previous meetings; we have done this so we can finish up prior to lunch so you can enjoy the afternoon with family & friends or continue on to lunch with fellow teachers.

Format:

9.00am – 10.00am -- YA QLD Meeting

Robyn Raneng (for Carmel Gannon, National Management Committee - QLD) & Matt Jermyn (QLD Coordinator) will update you on Yoga Australia at the national and state level.

10.00am - 10:45am -- Interactive Workshop - TBC.

To draw on the group’s wisdom and help build networks of support, we will facilitate a discussion in small groups.

10.45am - 11:30am -- Chai Time.

Tea & coffee will be provided.
Please bring a small plate to share during the break.

11:30am – 1.00pm -- Yoga for Strong Bones (assist with osteoporosis & osteopenia), plus a healthy bones yoga practice.

Presenter - James Bone BSc BAppSc (Physio) Dip Bowen Adv Cert Ayurveda, Member Level 3 YA, Yoga Therapist member YA, Member AAYT, Member APA.

Background - James is a physiotherapist, yoga teacher and yoga therapist with over 20 years of experience. He has been a facilitator for Osteoporosis education with Osteoporosis Australia. He has completed extra studies in Yoga for Bones with Dr Loren Fishman & Ellen Saltonstall - Authors of "Yoga for Osteoporosis”.

Presentation objectives -
• Gain a brief background to osteoporosis & osteopenia
• Learn benefits of yoga for bone health and fracture prevention
• Be introduced to research/evidence for yoga & building bone strength
• Understand precautions & safety with yoga for osteoporosis
• Learn some basic principles for building strong bones with yoga, including fracture prevention principles
• Be introduced to a brief healthy bone practice)

Presentation Summary - Osteoporosis can be a major health risk leading to disability & earlier death. The danger is fractures to the hip & spine. There is growing evidence that yoga can be effective for improving bone mass & bone quality, and help prevent fractures associated with osteoporosis. In this presentation you will learn more about osteoporosis, the precautions you need to take with people with osteoporosis to avoid fractures in a yoga class, and the yoga principles (evidence based) you can use help people with osteoporosis stay young, keep well and build bone strength.
