------

BBBRNP is an incredible piece of primary forest encompassing over 200,000ha and supports an array of wildlife. This forest is part of what is known as the “Heart of Borneo”, Asia’s last great rainforest. This region provides vital habitat to 10 endemic species of primate, more than 350 birds, 150 reptiles and amphibians and 10,000 plant species.

But there’s a problem.
Sadly, it has been decades since the local communities in the Mentatai area of BBBRNP witnessed the last orangutan here, despite this region being prime orangutan habitat. Our partner, International Animal Rescue (IAR) in Indonesia conducted their own research and confirmed the locals observations.

Here’s what we’re doing about it:
IAR Indonesia has begun a mission to bring back orang-utan in the Mantatai region of this beautiful National Park.

At IAR’s rescue and rehabilitation centre in Ketapang West Kalimantan, five potential release candidates have been selected to start this incredible journey and second chance at freedom. Cost for each release is $5,000 AUD so we are aiming to raise at least $20,000 for four of the candidates. Hopefully we can smash this target for the fifth release.

Grown is located in the inner city suburb of West End, Brisbane in the Vida Complex at 21 Buchanan Street.

Our plant-based and seasonal menu primarily utilises produce from FoodConnect, who source from local farmers no more than 400 kilometres from Brisbane. Other key suppliers include Suncoast Fresh, who supply seasonal produce from the Sunshine Coast and The Falls Farm, a family-run organic farm in Mapleton, Queensland. Ethical and transparent suppliers ensure that our menu supports sustainable and fair food systems.

Our house blend is roasted by Wynnum’s Dramanti Artisan Roaster. Single origin and filter offerings showcase additional local roasters.

Our beverage list is carefully curated to ensure all our offerings are vegan-friendly and, where possible, locally produced and sustainably packaged.

Our coffee is packaged plastic-free where possible and sourced from local roasters. As much of our menu as possible is made in-house with fresh produce so that food packaging is also kept at a minimum.

Food waste from Grown is diverted to compost at Jane Street Community Garden, a community-based project down the road th is run by volunteers. The garden employs permaculture practices to turn food scraps into compost for crops that are harvested by the local community.
